Do you want to learn about mummies and ancient artifacts? Join us in exploring Ancient Civilizations from around the world! These dynamic societies and their crucial contributions to humanity will be brought to life through art, archeology, videos, museum visits, writing, and hands-on projects.

Birds!

This hands-on class will use science and art to explore questions such as: What makes a bird a bird? How do birds use their body parts to survive? Why should we care about birds? How can we help protect them? We learn from local experts and become experts ourselves! This class will be meeting at AFE on some days and off campus on other days to observe local birds in the Santa Cruz area.

Middle School
Fantasy Literature
Thursdays 10-12:30
with Teacher Peter
Explore the genre of fantasy literature and some classic stories and authors. We will look at the common questions and issues that are addressed in this genre. In class we will: read short stories, view fantasy fiction films and shows, discuss and analyze the materials, work in teams, and share this work through art, performance and writing. Students will be expected to read and analyze a novel, a tv show episode, and a movie outside of class time as well as write a short fantasy story of their own. Active learning, games and some PE will be a regular part of the class.
